Volunteer with us and make a difference!

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and share a passion for helping others. Find the role that’s right for you and meet like-minded people!

  • Friendly Visitor: 1 to 2 hours a week– You will be visiting a Lodge resident on a weekly basis and developing a respectful and caring relationship. An understanding of or experience with dementia is a benefit, but not required.
  • Meal Time Assistant: 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. OR 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. OR 4:45 to 6:15 p.m. – You will be assisting nursing staff by assisting residents to enjoy their meals.
  • Spiritual Care Assistant: 1 to 2 hours a week – You will spend quality time with residents to read the bible, talk about your spiritual journey and participate in hymn sings.
  • Recreation Program Assistant: 2 to 3 hours a week – Assisting Recreation staff to facilitate and support activities such as board games, musical programs or exercise classes.
  • Reception Relief: To relieve the receptionist for their lunch or dinner break, cover 1 hour reception for Lunch Time (Noon to 1:00 p.m.) or Dinner Time (7m. to 8 p.m.)
  • Volunteer Co-ordinator Assistant: You will assist the Volunteer Coordinator in various projects that benefit the department and increase volunteer engagement.

Do you have more time on the weekend?  The positions listed above are available on the weekend as well as during the week.

Steps to become a Volunteer

Applicants must be committed to volunteering with us for a minimum of 6 months (exceptions may apply).

 

  1. Complete your online application form using Vome Volunteer. Submit Application HERE
  2. Upon invite, attend an interview with the Coordinator of Volunteer Services.

If you are a successful candidate, you will be asked to:

  1. Complete a 2-step Mantoux (TB) skin test with your family physician. A chest x-ray is also suitable.
  2. Complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC).
  3. Prior to beginning your volunteer service, you will attend an in-person Orientation program.
  4. Complete online education and training.

Do you need to complete your 40 hours of community service?  We may have the right position for you to support your goals.

 

L.E.A.D. Program

Leadership, Empowerment, Achievement, Determination or L.E.AD. is a strengths-based program for students in grades 11 and 12 that helps them gain valuable tools to successfully transition to college or university. Students learn about resume writing and scholarship and career opportunities and they build lifelong skills of self-exploration, self-management, self-worth, self-confidence, working well with others and community engagement.
